The Dry-cargo department has concentrated on bulk carriers and general cargo vessels with major Charterers and Ship Owners trading outbound and inbound South America.

Cargo coverage in the Bulk Market includes: grains, sugar, coal, pet coke, ores, fertilizers and steel products (on spot and/or COAs).

I.M.A. is fully aware that steel is a commodity which must be treated with care in order to minimise the risk to damage the cargo.

Common types of steel:

* Hot rolled sheeting ( coils)
  steel of this nature is in its most basic state, and will usually undergo further processing.

* Hot rolled sheeting ( bundles)
  to fulfill the demands of the customer, hot rolled sheeting is sometimes cut into lenghts, stacked
 into bundles and secured with metal bands.

* Cold rolled sheeting (coils)
this valuable product has been processed for direct use by the end-user and even minor damage
is likely to produce a claim.

* Cold rolled sheeting ( packs)
 sheets of cold rolled steel are often cut to size, covered in moisture-resistant paper and parcelled
 in a metal wrapper.

* Wire rods
 this product is customarily wound into coils and shipped unwrapped. Since wire rods are usually hot drawn,
 surface rust is not uncommon. A good stow and a favourable outturn can only be achieved if the bundles are rigid.

* Tin plate
 this expensive product is made using the cold rolled process to produce very thin steel plate which,
after acid cleaning, is then coated with a layer of tin.

* Structural steel
 structural steel includes steel sections( channels, angles and beams), steel bars, wirerods, flat products
 ( strip, plate and wide flats) seamless and welded, forgings and semi-finished products.

* Galvanised steel
 this commodity is extremely valuable. The galvanising process coats the surface of the steel with a
 protective layer of zinc, inhibiting the development of rust.
Galvanised sheeting may be rolled into coils or cut to size and packaged, and the galvanising
of structural steel is also widespread.
Small areas of white oxidation marks may be evident on the wrappers of galvanised steel signifying
exposure to moist air, but unless extensive, are probably no case of alarm.
